Calcium Carbonate

Clean white from natural mineral sources

Calcium carbonate is a white mineral pigment obtained from purified chalk, limestone, or marble. It is mechanically ground to a fine powder and may be washed and standardized to meet food-grade purity requirements.

Unlike most colorants, calcium carbonate provides opacity and brightness rather than hue. It is insoluble in water and stable across all pH ranges, under heat, and in light. It’s often used to lighten or neutralize colors, and because it’s mineral-based, it requires no extraction—just careful purification and milling.

Technical Notes:

  • pH stability: Excellent

  • Light stability: Excellent

  • Heat stability: Excellent

  • Solubility: Insoluble; dispersible in water

  • Can be used alongside other pigments for pastel shades
